Fish

  Posted by Picasa

The fish in the pond
were merry and gay.
They knew not of credit
or money to pay.

All they did
was swim around
with open mouths.
There was plankton abound.

Life underwater
was easy and free.
The fish were as happy
as fishes can be.

Then all of a sudden
in the muddy dark
arrived a mean and unscrupulous
shark.

He said:" Don't be nervous,
have no fear.
I like you fish,
I hold you dear.

I will not eat you
nor on you feed,
provided you bring me
the food that I need.

So don't you forget
in the dephts and the dark:
when I get hungry
I'm an angry shark."

The fish drew back
to debate the matter.
Some were enraged:
"Let us uprise and shatter
the enemy. United we're strong.
Let us fight
and may we live long."
But most of them were not that brave.
They wanted to hide
and stay in a cave.
Soon they discovered
that they needed
some food to munch
swallow and eat it.

Then one of them,
a clever anchovy,
said:" Let's start to work
and save and so we
can take to the market
what we don't need.
We'll give the shark money
to buy food to eat."

The shark found a wife
and had children to feed.
So the fish worked and worked
for their daily need.
The poor little fish
had to pay, pay and pay,
while the sharks had fishfingers
for lunch every day.

The shark never slept
nor ever he rested.
He had to take care of his money,
invested
in trawlers and nets,
in hooks and in bait.
He grew and grew
in size and in height.

He took over the oceans,
and all of the sea.
He started big business,
went globally.
He and his allies
grew mighty and tall.
And that's why small fish
will always stay small.
