Of a certain book

I've read the book a thousand times
and still don't get the meaning.
I mean, there are a lot of rhymes

and from the worn-out pages chimes
a sound of something preening.
I've read the book a million times.

I think the ancient volume mimes
a seriousness careening.
But still, there are a lot of rhymes.

Can books commit more serious crimes
to veil what they are screening?
I've read the book a billion times.

It only cost me a few dimes
(the cover needs some cleaning).
And still, there are a lot of rhymes.

My understanding climbs and climbs,
the words are nearly gleaming.
I've read the book a trillion times:
there are too many bloody rhymes.
